Simply Coding is a great place to start if you are just learning or want to learn coding. I know what Java does from a user standpoint but I've never coded or written my own program. But with this Game Design Software package, I had written my very own Pong game on the first night.

The directions are pretty straight forward to get you logged in and get you going right away. The instructions offer step by step how-to details, plus there's a video or two for each lesson to make sure you're on the right track. My son is almost 10 & he really enjoyed this.

Personally, I liked being able to try my hand at writing my own code before they revealed the answer to me. Plus, I could either run the video to go along with the lesson or watch it before or after my own attempt. And there are "code checkpoints" built it, where they spell out line by line of what your code should look like. And they offer real time "chat" sessions for help and questions, plus they host live online classes to cover certain areas which are free! It also came with an 8GB flash drive to save all your stuff if needed. (There are a pretty good amount of files you have to download)

I'd definitely suggest this course for beginners who want to learn about Java coding or get an intro to game coding.
